CAN BATLLO

Barcelona, Spain

WHAT

Master Planning

WHEN

Fall 2018

The old industrial factory site at the heart of the La Bordeta neighborhood in Barcelona, Spain is surrounded by residences, local businesses, and restaurants. The proposed master plan brings these existing programs to the abandoned site, adding a new restaurant/shopping row, a community center, arts and cultural spaces, and affordable housing units. Most notably, the master plan provides a much needed space for outdoor exploration, with a large, sloped urban park to the south and two courtyards to the east. By integrating the existing central factory building facade, the courtyard shells out the building and allows the public to interact with what was previously private.

A collaborative effort with Christopher Merlo (M.Arch '19) and two students from the University of Girona.

Completed under the advisement of Manuel Delgado.
